Digital Retinal Imaging
Digital retinal imaging allows our eye doctor to evaluate the health of the internal structures of the eye such as the retina. This fast, non-invasive testing is utilized to assist in early detection of diseases such as Diabetes and Macular Degeneration. This procedure produces a clear digital image of the retinal structures which our doctors will review with the patient. Most of our patients enjoy the convenience of this procedure as an alternative to dilating the eye. The imaging is critical to confirm the health of the retina, macula, optic nerve, and other retinal structures.
Many eye diseases, if detected at an early stage, can be treated successfully without total loss of vision. After capturing the digital retinal images, they will be stored electronically to provide our optometrists with a record of the condition of the retina and associated structures. Having these images stored, will allow our eye doctor to detect and measure any changes to the retina and associated structures each year when your eyes are evaluated. As many eye conditions, such as Glaucoma, are diagnosed by detecting changes over time.
